Biography

Since 2016/2017, baritone Roman Hoza has been a soloist of the opera ensemble of the National Theatre Brno. He supplemented studies at the Janáček Academy of Music in Brno by a yearlong residency at Vienna’s Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst, and attendance of voice classes with several leading educators. He was a member of the opera studio at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein Düsseldorf/Duisburg, studying a number of repertory parts. Roman Hoza has so far guest appeared on opera stages in Vienna, Lyon, Salzburg, Düsseldorf, Duisburg, Cologne, Kaiserslautern, Ostrava, Opava and other venues. In the autumn of 2015 he debuted at the National Theatre in Prague, as Figaro (in Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro), to which he has since then added creations of Dandini (Rossini: La Cenerentola), Mamma Agata (Donizetti: Le convenienze teatrali), and the title role in Mozart’s Don Giovanni. In January 2017 he made an appearance in a Mozart birthday anniversary concert at Prague’s Estates Theatre. He works regularly with the most distinctive Czech ensembles specializing in historically informed interpretation of early music (Collegium 1704, Cappella Mariana, Czech Ensemble Baroque, Musica Florea, Ensemble Inégal, and Opera Diversa). His most notable recent commitments include e.g. participation in productions of Handel’s Messiah with the Czech Ensemble Baroque, or Fux’s opera Costanza e Fortezza with Musica Florea directed by Marek Štryncl. He has to his credit a record of successful appearances at major international music festivals, including the Prague Spring, the Dvořák Prague International Music Festival, Peter Dvorský IMF, Špilberk IMF and others.
