Ondřej is dedicated to theatre from his teenage years already. After several years, spent as a technician in Karlovy Vary Theatre, he succesfuly completed exams to the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague and graduated there in 1978. He refused the contract offer from the National Theatre ("...working in an official, state-cherished theater seems impossible to me...") and he started to act and direct in several smaller and underground theatres. National Theatre came with contract offer again in 1993 and this time, O. Pavelka said “Yes”. His repertoire is full-filled with beautiful plays like “Master and Margarita” by M. Bulgakov, “I served the King of England” by B. Hrabal, “Hamlet” and “Much ado about Nothing” by w. Shakespeare or Martin Crimp’s “Country”. Beside theatre and film acting he became a reputable director. He is a professor at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague and art-director of A STUDIO RUBIN Theatre.
