Ivo Michl

Biography

Guest of the National Theatre Opera. Ivo Michl began devoting to solo singing back in his childhood at the Antonín Dvořák Primary Art School in Lipník nad Bečvou under the tutelage of Jana Kyseláková. As a pupil, he won twice in his category in the National Singing Competition of Primary Art Schools (1993, 1995). After graduating from the grammar school in Hranice na Moravě, he started to attend the Music Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts (AMU) in Prague, where he studied with Miloslav Podskalský and Magdalena Hajóssyová. While still astudent, he won 2nd prize in the junior category in the 2001 Ema Destinnová International Singing Competition in České Budějovice (1st prize was not awarded) and created anumber of roles in productions of the AMU opera studio (for example, Bohuslav Martinů’s operas Comedy on the Bridge and The Voice of the Forest, Wolfi! – scenes from W. A. Mozart’s operas, the anonymous opus dated 1748 On Landenbork, M. Nejtek: Dementia praecox (2002), J. F. Fischer: Drndy, etc.). He completed his studies at AMU in 2003. He has primarily focused on performing early music, but has also appeared in works by contemporary composers. He has collaborated with various music ensembles (for example, Capella Regia (Robert Hugo), Hofmusici (Ondřej Macek), Prague Madrigalists (Damiano Binetti), Harmonia delectabilis (Lukáš Vendl), participating with them in ahost of festivals (Opera 1999, 2003 – Prague, Nowa Estonia – Gdańsk (2002), Le Festival de musique de Toulon et sa region – Toulon (2003), Pieśń Naszych Korzeni – Jaroslaw (2003).
