Foreign language surtitles right before your eyes!

Smart caption glasses

The National Theatre Drama has taken the first steps in introducing innovative surtitling devices for its audience. At the National Theatre, the spectators can rent the Epson smart glasses, which show surtitles in individual spectators’ eyelines and thus ensure perfect visibility of the captions.

Moreover, the users can select from several language versions: surtitles for Hordubal are available in English and Ukrainian, for Hamlet in English, and for Our Uppish and Defiant Fellows in English and German.

This unique theatrical experience is offered for selected performances only.

Terms and conditions:
  • The number of glasses is limited; their online reservation is thus necessary upon buying the ticket (online or at the cash desk), for a non-refundable fee of CZK 20.
  • The pick-up point is located at the cafeteria on the left side of the National Theatre main floor, opposite the entrance to the stalls.
  • The smart glasses will be handed over against signature of a rental agreement, which is a precondition for the provision of the smart glasses. The wording of the agreement is available here.
  • Reservations expire 15 minutes prior to the start of the performance, please arrive well in advance.

Spectators who have not reserved their smart glasses in advance may ask at the pick-up point for spare glasses, if any. And if they are not available there either, the audience need not despair – we continue to project surtitles on the panels above the stage.
