Czech premiere: 25 February 2021 at the State Opera
The most famous love story of all time, the grand and timeless theme, is the subject of John Cranko’s ballet Romeo and Juliet, which we will stage at the State Opera.
The new production will feature Jürgen Rose’s original enthralling sets and costumes, whose reconstruction alone is considered a remarkable artistic accomplishment. The staging of Cranko’s adaptation of William Shakespeare’s immortal tale, set to Sergey Prokofiev’s gracious music and furnished with Rose’s sets and costumes, guarantees an astonishing combination of unforgettable experiences.
Cranko’s ballets are mainly fascinating owing to their forcibly conveying human emotions. The dancers profoundly feel the flights and falls of the love-smitten Romeo and Juliet, recasting their own feelings into expressive movements. Immerse with them into the story, share the heroes’ passion and suffering, let the stage and the auditorium blend into a single fabulous universe.
By their appearance, attire and behaviour, the audience is obliged to adhere to the accustomed practice expected from them when attending a theatre performance.
