Zdena Součková established the boys’ choir Pueri gaudentes in 1990 and has headed all its sections ever since. She studied pedagogy and arts at the teacher-training college in Beroun and subsequently enrolled at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague, focusing on puppet theatre. Keenly interested in children’s choral singing, since 1969 she has helped her husband in guiding the Radost – Praha choir. She also teaches at the Primary Arts School in Šimáčkova street, Prague, from where the two choirs operate. In 1997 she received the František Lýsek Award, the highest accolade for choirmastering in the Czech Republic.
