Biography

Vladimír Kratina studied as the Faculty of Theatre of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague, graduating in 1975. Following his first engagement, in Hradec Králové, he worked with smaller theatres, including the Činoherní studio in Ústí nad Labem, the Dílna 24 and Studio Ypsilon in Prague. In 1981, he appeared as a guest in the National Theatre’s adaptation of F. M. Dostoyevsky’s novel The Idiot, portraying Prince Myshkin. From 1988 to 1993, he was engaged at the Činoherní klub theatre in Prague, following which he pursued business activities in the arts. In 2003, he returned to the Činoherní klub to perform the role of Avinovitski in an adaptation of Fyodor Sologub’s novel The Petty Demon. His portrayal of Michael James Flaherty in a production of J. M. Synge’s play The Playboy of the Western World earned him a nomination for the coveted Thalia Prize (2007). At the present time, Vladimír Kratina performs the roles of Alain Reille (Yasmina Reza’s God of Carnage), Big Daddy (Tennessee Williams’s Cat on a Hot Tin Roof), Arthur (Martin McDonagh’s Hangmen), etc.
