Udo Haberland
Biography
The lighting designer Udo Haberland worked as a photographer in Berlin into the 1980s. In 1988, he was engaged as a lighting technician at the Staatstheater Stuttgart, and also undertook illumination of films and television productions. As a freelance lighting designer/ lighting master, he has collaborated with ballet, dance, opera and drama companies in Europe, the USA and Australia. Furthermore, he has worked on music festivals (Ludwigsburger Festspiele, Salzburger Festspiele, Wiener Festwoche) and other events (for Hugo BOSS, Formula 1, Strenesse, etc.), as well as on films and TV advertisements for numerous channels and renowned companies.
He has designed lighting for all Marco Goecke creations for the Stuttgarter Ballett, including the feature-length ballets The Nutcracker (2006) and Orlando (2010). In addition, Udo Haberland has worked on the productions Goecke has made for other companies: Nijinsky (2016, Gauthier Dance, Theaterhaus Stuttgart), Der Liebhaber (The Lover; 2021, Staatstheater Hannover) and Dogs Sleep (2019, Paris Opera Ballet). His lighting designs for Goecke’s choreographies have also been used by the Scapino Ballet Rotterdam, Les Ballets de Monte Carlo, Nederlands Dans Theater I and II, Staatsballett Berlin, Norwegian National Ballet in Oslo, Ballett der Niedersächsischen Staatstheater Hannover, Ballett der Wiener Staatsoper and Staatstheater München. The other choreographers for whom he has designed lighting include Örjan Andersson, Bridget Breiner, Jerome Delbey, Giovanni Di Palma and Cayetano Soto.
