Timo Riihonen

Biography

Finnish bass Timo Riihonen made his debut at the State Opera in November 2022 as Baron Ochs in a new production of Richard Strauss's opera Der Rosenkavalier.

His wide repertoire includes mainly Wagnerian roles such as Daland (Der fliegende Holländer), Heinrich der Vogler (Lohengrin), Veit Pogner and Hans Foltz (Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg), Fasolt and Fafner (Das Rheingold) and Hunding (Die Walküre), as well as, e.g. Commendatore (Mozart: Don Giovanni), Gremin (Tchaikovsky: Eugene Onegin), Padre Guardiano (Verdi: La forza del destino), Filippo II and the Grand Inquisitor (Verdi: Don Carlos), Colline (Puccini: La bohème), Count Waldner (Strauss: Arabella) and Claggart (Britten: Billy Budd). He has appeared at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein in Düsseldorf, the Hessisches Staatstheater in Wiesbaden, the Bayreuth Festival, the Finnish National Opera, the Latvian National Opera, etc. In the 2022/2023 season he made his debut at the Royal Opera House in London as the Priest in Kaija Saariaho‘s Innocence.
