Stuttgarter Kammerorchester
Biography
The Stuttgarter Kammerorchester (SKO), founded in 1945 by the conductor Karl Münchinger, is one of the oldest chamber orchestras worldwide. It is currently headed by the Principal Conductor Thomas Zehetmair, the Artistic Partner Jörg Widmann and the Managing and Artistic Director Markus Korselt. The management team see their mission in a dual role: to preserve tradition while setting artistic and programming standards for the future. This principle is also where the SKO draws its creative ideas from. Today, the SKO ranks among the world’s most versatile ensembles – on the strength of its diverse repertoire ranging from Baroque to contemporary and the collaboration with internationally renowned soloists. What’s more, the welltravelled orchestra is also known for boldly transcending genre boundaries, devising fresh, accessible formats in partnership with eminent artists who often have a background in jazz and electronic music. The SKO places a special focus on digitisation, constantly coming up with new projects and visions in order to reach out to a wide audience. In March 2022, the SKO became the first orchestra in Germany to achieve climate neutrality. More information: www.stuttgarter-kammerorchester.com
