Nuška Drašček Rojko
Biography
Nuška Drašček Rojko obtained her master’s degree in singing at the Academy of Music in Ljubljana in 2016. She studied with professor Matjaž Robavs.
She has received accolades at the Ferruccio Tagliavini International Competition for Opera Singers in Graz (2012), the Nuits lyriques in Marmande (third prize, 2013) and the Concorso lirico Internazionale di Grandate (second prize, 2014).
In 2012, she performed as Laura in a production of P. I. Tchaikovsky’s Iolanta (starring Anna Netrebko in the lead role) within a one-month tour of Europe with the Slovene Philharmonic Orchestra and the Slovene Chamber Choir, conducted by Emmanuel Villaume. Visiting all major cities, they gave 11 performances and also recorded the opera for Deutsche Grammophon. In 2013, she was cast as Mercedes in Bizet’s Carmen and as Olga in Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin, both for the opera house in Maribor. In September 2013, she debuted in Ljubljana as Maddalena in Verdi’s Rigoletto. In 2015, she sang the part of La Ciesca in a concert performance of Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi with the Symphony Orchestra of RTV Ljubljana. In the 2015/2016 season, she portrayed the roles of Opinion publique in Offenbach’s Orphée aux l'enfer, Emilia in Verdi’s Otello and Cherubino in Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro in Ljubljana Opera House productions. In June 2016, she sang Olga in Eugene Onegin at the Zomeropera festival in Alden Biesen.
In the 2016/17 season, she appeared in the title role of Carmen and portrayed Angelina in Rossini’s La Cenerentola at the Ljubljana Opera House (her performance on the premiere night was critically acclaimed). In the 2017/18 season, she sang the lead female role in Glass's La Belle et la Bête in Ljubljana. In September 2018, she performed as Angelina in La Cenerentola at the Theater Koblenz. In May and June 2019, she was cast as Isabella in Rossini’s L’italiana in Algeri at the Zomeropera festival in Alden Biesen. Since December 2019, she has been engaged at the Ljubljana Opera House. In the current season – besides performing as Carmen and Angelina – she premiered in January the title role in Tchaikovsky’s The Maid of Orleans to great critical acclaim.
