Miloň Kališ
Biography
Born on 22 November 1950, died on 18 August 2006. Miloň Kališ studied stage technology at the Secondary School of Applied Arts in Prague and architecture at the Academy of Applied Arts. He graduated in 1977 from the Studio of Interior, Set Design and Exhibition Industry, having studied with Prof. Josef Svoboda, with whom he would subsequently work as an assistant for 10 years. From 1985 to 1987 he served as head of the sets section at the E. F. Burian Theatre in Prague. Miloň Kališ worked at numerous Czech theatres, participating in the productions of renowned stage directors (I. Glanc, J. Frehár, M. Krobot, L. Bělohradská, M. Macháček, P. Scherhaufer, H. Glancová and others). He designed more than 100 sets, including for the productions The Lady from the Sea (Na zábradlí Theatre), Period Dances (Realistic Theatre), Mourning Becomes Electra (Prague City Theatres), The Skylark (Mahen Theatre in Brno), Ballet Macabre and Shakespeare Mania II (Na provázku Theatre in Brno), The Parasite (Municipal Theatre in Brno), Manon Lescaut (J. K. Tyl Theatre in Plzeň) and The Miser (Municipal Theatre in Most). He created the greatest amount of sets for the productions directed by his sister, Jana Kališová. At the National Theatre in Prague, he worked on the productions of Rojas’s play La Celestina (directed by M. Krobot, 1988), Smetana’s opera The Two Widows (1996), Verdi’s La traviata (1998) and Mozart’s Don Giovanni (2000).
