Biography

Slovak conductor Maroš Potokár makes his debut at the National Theatre Opera in the 2023/24 season (Così fan tutte). He graduated from the Conservatoire in Košice (violin and conducting), and continued his studies at the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava and Janáček Academy of Music in Brno. Since 2007 he has been the concertmaster of the Košice State Philharmonic Orchestra, with which he also regularly performs as a soloist. He performs also with numerous chamber ensembles at home and abroad, and has been the choirmaster of the Košice Teachers' Choir for more than 10 years. He has conducted, among others, the PKF – Prague Philharmonia, Brno Philharmonic, Slovak Philharmonic, etc. From the 2021/2022 season he is assistant to the chief conductor Vassily Sinaisky at the Janáček Philharmonic Ostrava. As an opera conductor he has been cooperating with the State Theatre Košice since 2013, where he has participated in a number of productions (Dialogues des Carmélites, Rigoletto, Falstaff, La bohème and Les contes d'Hoffmann). He has also worked with the National Moravian-Silesian Theatre in Ostrava and the Slovak National Theatre in Bratislava.
