Biography

The Brazilian pianist Clélia Iruzun studied at the Escola de Música da Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro and the Royal Academy of Music in London. The holder of numerous coveted awards, she has worked with Nelson Freire, Jacques Klein, Stephen Kovacevich, Fou Ts‘ong and other distinguished pianists. Renowned Brazilian composers have written works for her. A sought-after musician, Clélia Iruzun has given concerts in Europe, the Americas and Asia, and she has also appeared on television and radio, including BBC Radio 3. She has made a number of highly acclaimed CDs, featuring music by the contemporary composer Nimrod Borenstein, as well as concertos by Mendelssohn, Camille Saint-Saëns, Henrique Oswald and Elizabeth Maconchy. Iruzun’s album for SOMM Recordings of Francisco Mignone’s and Isaac Albéniz’s piano concertos, made with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Jac van Steen, was nominated for the International Classical Music Awards.
