Bohdana Malik MBA
Administrative Director of the National Theatre Opera and the State OperaBiography
Bohdana Malik is a graduate of the Theatre Faculty at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague, where she completed her Master's degree in Production in 1999. Her deep connection to music, theatre, and visual arts began in childhood, when she studied violin, guitar, and piano. Outstanding musicians and academic painters played a key role in her artistic development, passing on not only practical artistic skills but also a profound appreciation for art. This lifelong passion continues to shape both her professional and personal life, and strongly influences her deep respect for cultural institutions and their role in society.
She gained her first professional experience during her university studies at Městská divadla pražská, and later contributed to the production of major musicals such as Jesus Christ Superstar, Pěna dní, Tmavomodrá revue Jaroslava Ježka, and Evita. After completing a study and work program abroad, she joined the international company of American Express, where she managed global incentive and congress projects for VIP clients.
In 2013, she accepted the role of Chief Financial Officer at Divadlo pod Palmovkou, where she helped bring the theatre back to full operation after devastating floods. She later joined the National Theatre in Prague, initially leading the Finance Department of the National Theatre Opera and the State Opera. In 2019, she was appointed Administrative Director of the Czech Republic’s foremost operatic institution by the General Director.
Bohdana Malik is a specialist in strategic financial and human resources management within the cultural sector. She promotes process modernization, systemic change, and a development-focused approach to team leadership. She places particular emphasis on intergenerational cooperation, team diversity, and automation.
Her significant contribution was reflected in Musica non grata, an international project that revived the artistic legacy of composers from interwar Czechoslovakia who were persecuted during World War II. Under her financial leadership, the project received a €4 million grant from the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany. With its scope and dramaturgical ambition, Musica non grata stands as one of the largest multi-source funded artistic projects in the history of the National Theatre.
In addition to her financial leadership, she has successfully navigated complex organizational and personnel challenges—including the reopening of the renovated State Opera in 2020, the relocation of the Opera during the pandemic lockdowns, and the modernization of operational processes despite significant budget constraints. She consistently transforms such challenges into opportunities through strong teamwork and collaborative effort. Her leadership is rooted in professional experience, personal responsibility, and the ability to bring vision, composure, motivation, and fresh perspective to demanding situations.
In her free time, she enjoys traveling, gardening, and the art of floral design, which help her recharge and stay inspired.
