Biography

Alena Grach is one of the most gifted young Slovak singers. She studied at the Bratislava Conservatory and the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava. While still a student, she garnered accolades at domestic and international competitions, with her most recent successes including advancing to the semi-final at the Hans Gabor Belveder in Jurmale (Latvia, June 2018). Since debuting in 2013 at the State Opera in Banská Bystrica, she has performed as Tchaikovsky’s Olga (Eugene Onegin, Opava), Mascagni’s Lola (Cavalleria rusticana, Slovak National Theatre in Bratislava), Mozart’s Sesto (La clemenza di Tito, Ostrava), Puccini’s Ciesca (Gianni Schicchi, Slovak National Theatre), and other roles. As a concert soloist, she has regularly appeared with the National Chamber Orchestra of Žilina, the State Philharmonic Košice, the South Bohemia Philharmonic in České Budějovice and the Slovak Radio Symphony Orchestra, with whom she toured Japan with Beethoven's Symphony No. 9. In the 2018/19 season, she performed at the Saint Wenceslas Music Festival in Ostrava, the Convergence international chamber music festival in Bratislava, Smetana's Litomyšl, where she sang with the Czech Philharmonic under the baton of Jakub Hrůša, and the Autumn Festival of Sacred Music in Olomouc. Her new roles include Rosina (Rossini: Il barbiere di Siviglia) and the Third Water Nymph (Dvořák: Rusalka) at the Slovak National Theatre, and Emilia (Verdi: Otello) and Dalila (Saint-Saëns:  Samson et Dalila) at the State Opera in Košice.
