‘Voice and Movements’ Workshop with Flora Détraz

Flora Détraz, a French choreographer and performer, presented her appreciated performance Muyte Maker at the 2019 Prague Crossroads Festival. Now, she brings to Prague a two-day workshop intended for students and artists who wish to explore the relationship between voice and body, being the essence of Flora’s artistic creations.

Their common work will focus on dissociating voice from body. Indeed, Flora considers voice a separate organ and experiments with its possible uses. She places voice next to body movement, counteracting, commenting, amplifying, or distorting it. She allows the participants to enter the inner dimension of their bodies.

The workshop will be held in English (without translation) at the NT Rehearsal Studio on 14 and 15 June 2021 from 10.00 AM to 3.00 PM. The participation at the workshop is subject to the applicable public-health measures (currently the obligation to present a valid Covid-negative test confirmation).

Flora Détraz has a ballet background and subsequently studied literature. She entered the course at Centre Chorégraphique National Lyon, under Maguy Marin, and then completed the studies of choreography at Pepcc, Forum Dança, in Lisbon. She had the opportunity to meet outstanding artists (such as Marlene Monteiro Freitas, Vera Mantero, Lia Rodrigues, Meredith Monk, Loïc Touzé, Meg Stuart, Jonathan Burrows, Diane Broman) who influenced her own work. She started making her own pieces in 2013, exploring the relationship between voice and movements in her performances Peuplements (2013), Gesächt (2014), Tutuguri (2016) or Muyte Maker (2018), presented at the 2019 Prague Crossroads festival.
