Song recitals

The National Theatre Opera and the State Opera have prepared a unique cycle of morning song recitals. Amid an intimate atmosphere, next to the audience, who will be seated on the Estates Theatre stage, our soloists will perform remarkable musical gems by Czech and other internationally renowned masters.
The cycle, consisting of eight song recitals during the 2023/24 season, will make the National Theatre Opera and the State Opera repertoire more variegated. The morning concerts at the Estates Theatre will follow on from the well-received performance of Franz Schubert’s Winterreise in January 2023. The close proximity between the singers and the audience allows for intense mutual enjoyment of the music, with the exceptional experience further enhanced by the magic milieu of old Prague. The fascinating history of the city’s music has inspired the programme of the recitals, whose spring component has been compiled and extended with regard to the Year of Czech Music 2024. The concerts will feature songs by Richard Wagner, Carla Maria von Weber, Franz Liszt, František Škroup, Ladislav Dusík, Bedřich Smetana, Antonín Dvořák, Leoš Janáček, Vítězslav Novák, Pavel Haas and many other composers. The performers will include Kateřina Kněžíková, whose album Phidylé, mainly containing French songs, has received a BBC Music Magazine Award; Štěpánka Pučálková, a soloist of the Semperoper in Dresden; as well as Michaela Zajmi, Yukiko Kinjo, Arnheiður Eiríksdóttir, Markéta Klaudová, Martin Šrejma, Daniel Matoušek, Lukáš Bařák, Jaroslav Březina, Josef Moravec, Miloš Horák and other distinguished artists. In addition to renowned National Theatre Opera and State Opera singers, we have invited students of the Prague Conservatory and the Academy of Performing Arts to appear at the recitals, since we believe that by supporting their talent we are making an important investment in the future of Czech music culture.
