Therese Waldner

Biography

The Polish soprano Therese Waldner studied at the Fryderyk Chopin Music Academy. In 1990 she won a prize in the Madam Butterfly Competition in Miami. After engagements at Warsaw’s Grand Theatre, in Bremen and Karlsruhe, in the 1998/1999 season she became a member of Deutsche Oper am Rhein. Therese Waldner has also given guest performances in Italy, Brazil, Spain, Russia, America, Japan and other countries. Her repertoire includes the roles of Leonora (Fidelio), Jenůfa (Jenůfa), the Countess (Le nozze di Figaro), Tosca, Tatiana (Eugene Onegin), Lady Macbeth (Macbeth), Desdemona (Othello), Elisabeth (Don Carlos, Tannhäuser). Recently, she has celebrated success on her home stage singing Santuzza (Cavalleria Rusticana), Angelica (Suor Angelica), Giorgetta in Puccini’s Il tabarro, Senta (The Flying Dutchman) and Chrysothemis (Elektra). In 2003 Therese Waldner debuted on the stage of Milan’s La Scala with the role of Leonora in Fidelio.
