Biography
Born in Southern Germany, the Soprano Manuela Uhl studied in Salzburg, Zürich and Freiburg. She started work at the opera houses in Kiel and Karlsruhe, before later working at the Deutsche Oper Berlin, where she was a member of the ensemble (2006–2011). To this day, she is often invited back, as it remains her base opera house. Since 2011 the singer has become internationally recognised and is now one of the most sought after interpreters of Richard Strauss and Richard Wagner’s works. Interpreting the leading ladies of Wagner, Strauss, Beethoven, Weber, Schreker, Korngold, including Kaiserin, Salome, Marschallin, Danae, Daphne, Chrysothemis (Richard Strauss) and Senta, Elisabeth, Elsa, Sieglinde, Irene (Richard Wagner). Manuela Uhl has guest appeared on important stages like Teatro Colón Buenos Aires, Teatro Real Madrid, Royal Danish Opera in Kopenhagen, Opera Hongkong, Hungarian State Opera in Budapest, Theater an der Wien, Nederlandse Opera Amsterdam, Teatro dell‘ Opera di Roma, Bavarian State Opera in Munich, Semperoper in Dresden, Opéra de Nice, Teatro Maestranza in Sevilla, Opéra de Montpellier, Teatro Massimo in Palermo, Festspiele Baden-Baden, Maifestspiele Wiesbaden, etc. Both in the opera field as well as on the concert-stage, Manuela Uhl regularly works with well-known conductors including Christian Thielemann, Riccardo Chailly, Donald Runnicles, Antonio Pappano, Gustavo Dudamel, Kent Nagano, Semyon Bychkov, Lorin Maazel, Raphael Frühbeck de Burgos, Marek Janowski, Axel Kober, Pinchas Steinberg, Stefan Soltesz, Bertrand de Billy, Jonathan Nott and Jesús Lopéz Cobos. Numerous CDs and DVDs of Manuela Uhl’s work have been released over the years. Highlights of the 2018/19 season include Leonore (Beethoven: Fidelio) in Prague, Marietta (Korngold: Die tote Stadt) in Semperoper in Dresden, Sieglinde (Die Walküre) in Teatro di San Carlo in Naples and Salome in Oper Leipzig.
