Kees Tjebbes

Biography

After completing his studies at the Brussels Academy of the Arts, Kees Tjebbes worked with the Dutch theatre and dance companies Toneelgroep Theater, Introdans, Scapino Ballet Rotterdam and Nederlands Dans Theater. For Introdans

and Scapino Ballet Rotterdam, he began creating lighting designs for productions of new choreographies by Ed Wubbe, Nils Christe and Itzik Galili. In 2000, Jiří Kylián asked him to create the lighting design for Click-Pause-Silence. Since that time, Tjebbes has collaborated with Kylián on almost all of his dance productions: 27’52’’ (NDT 2, 2002), Claude Pascal (NDT 1, 2002), When Time Takes Time (NDT 3, 2002, Far Too Close (NDT 3, 2003), Last Touch (NDT 1, 2003), Sleepless (NDT 2, 2004), Toss of a Dice (NDT 1, 2005), Chapeau (NDT 2, 2006), Tar and Feathers (NDT 1, 2006), Vanishing Twin (NDT 1, 2008), Gods and Dogs (NDT 2, 2008), Mémoires d’oubliettes

(NDT 1, 2009) and Il Faut qu’une Porte (Ballet de l’Opéra de Paris, 2004). Moreover, Kees has supervised, adapted or re-created the lighting designs for many Kylián productions, staged or restaged all over the world.
