Biography

Jana Horáková Levicová graduated from the Plzeň Conservatoire, where she studied with Ludmila Kotnauerová. After graduation she was taught privately by professor Jiří Kotouč and took part in the singing courses of the Italian mezzosoprano Gloria Banditelli. From 1996 to 1998 Ms. Levicová was a member of the opera ensemble of the J. K. Tyl Theatre in Plzeň. She also collaborated with the Camerata Nova ensemble on concert performances of two Baroque operas, Rinaldo (G. F. Händel) and Astarto (G. Bononcini), singing the title part in the latter. From 2001 to 2004, she guest appeared on the stage of the Prague State Opera as Bradamante (Vivaldi: Orlando Furioso), Kate Pinkerton (Puccini: Madama Butterfly), Third Lady (Mozart: Die Zauberflöte), Antonia (Eugen d’Albert: Tiefland) and Alisa (Donizetti: Lucia di Lammermoor). From 2005 to 2011, she was soloist of the Prague State Opera with whose ensemble she joined the tour in Japan. On the stage of the Prague State Opera she also sang the parts of Third Water Nymph (Dvořák: Rusalka), Berta (Rossini: Il barbiere di Siviglia), Verdi’s Inez (Il trovatore) and Fenena (Nabucco), Mercedes (Bizet: Carmen), and Laura (Weber/Mahler: Die drei Pintos). Since January 1, 2012 she has been a soloist of the National Theatre Opera and has added to her repertoire the roles of Rosina (Rossini: Il barbiere di Siviglia), Donna Elvira (Mozart: Don Giovanni), Marcellina (Mozart: Le nozze di Figaro), Hänsel (Humperdinck: Hänsel und Gretel) and Adalgisa (Bellini: Norma). She has collaborated with many distinguished conductors ((J. Bělohlávek, G. Croci, E. Dovico, H. M. Förster, H. Griffiths, J. Hrůša, J. Latham-Koenig, K. I. Kobayashi, O. Lenárd, V. Luks, L. Pešek, V. Spurný, L. Svárovský, K. Stratton, M. Zambelli) and stage directors (G. Blin, U. Herrmann, J. Heřman, J. Nekvasil, P. Kracik, J. A. Pitínský). She has performed at prestigious festivals like Smetana Litomyšl, Tage Alte Music Regensburg, Music Bridge Prague-Dresden, Festival de Musique de Haut-Jura) and concert halls in Czech Republic as well as abroad – in Japan, Canada, Spain, Germany or Austria. She has performed with many orchestras as Camerata Nova, Collegium 1704, Czech Philharmonic, Czech National Symphony Orchestra, Musica Florea, Prague Symphony Orchestra or Toronto Philharmonia Orchestra.
