Biography

Initially employed as a worker at an engineering and manufacturing company, Daniel Tesař first developed interest in lighting design in the 1990s, while being engaged as an electrician and collaborating with the stage director Otomar Krejčí at the Divadlo za branou II theatre in Prague. Over time, he has become one of the finest Czech theatre designers. He has co-operated with the Prague Chamber Ballet, the National Theatre, the State Opera Prague, the Ponec and Archa theatres, as well as the DOT504 dance company. Over the long term, he has closely worked with the stage directors Jiří Heřman, Tomáš Pilař, Sláva Daubnerová, Petr  Zuska and Zuzana Fisherová. Daniel has designed lighting for dozens of opera and dance productions in the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Russia, Germany and France.

He has also been a technical producer of the 4+4 Days in Motion, Dance Prague and Theatre Nitra festivals, and participated in workshops held by the Lighting Design Institute in Prague.
