Biography

Born in Frankfurt as the son of a British opera singer and an Austrian producer, the Austrian Daniel Prohaska has since 1989 lived in Vienna. At the Conservatory of the City of Vienna he completed his education in singing, acting and dancing, among others with Sebastian Vittucci, Previn Moore and Wicus Slabbert. As a member of the New Viennese Vocal Ensemble he appeared, among others, at Schubertiade and from 1998 to 2000 he belonged to the English-language theatre group VISPA Players.
His broad-ranging repertory includes main roles in acting (»Romeo and Juliet«, »Bouncers«, »Der Reigen«), operetta (»Die Lustige Witwe«, »Der Vogelhändler«,»Gräfin Mariza«, »Der Vetter aus Dingsda«, »Opera Ball«, »Frau Luna«), musicals (»Les Misérables«, »West Side Story«, »Jesus Christ Superstar«, »Singin' in the Rain«, »Show Boat«, »Evita«, »Sweeney Todd«, »Hello Dolly!«, »Der Mann von La Mancha«) and opera (»Die Entführung aus dem Serail«, »Fidelio«, »Der Fliegende Holländer«) and the title role in the premiere of Cherubini's »Koukourgi« at venues such as the National Opera of Strasbourg, Vienna Volksoper, Graz Opera, City Theatre of Klagenfurt, Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz and Liepaja Theatre in Latvia.
