We will premiere three new productions under the new artistic director, Filip Barankiewicz, and revive one title.
The next season’s repertoire will be based on attractive major classical works, whose staging will indisputably further enhance our company’s artistic quality and enrich Prague’s cultural mosaic. The first new production, titled Timeless, will receive its premiere on 20 October at the National Theatre. Our new artistic director, Filip Barankiewicz, has chosen three choreographies to usher in a new era. George Balanchine’s engrossing Serenade, Glen Tetley’s celebrated The Rite of Spring, and a new opus by the contemporary Israeli choreographer Emanuel Gat, created directly for the Czech National Ballet.
The repertoire will be extended to include Sir Frederick Ashton’s feature-length masterpiece The Wayward Daughter, which will receive its Czech premiere on 19 April 2018 at the National Theatre. The enthralling ballet has to date been staged by more than 35 theatres around the world, including the Royal Ballet in London, the Paris Opera, the Bolshoi in Moscow, the American Ballet, the Boston Ballet and the National Ballet of Canada, starring the word’s most exciting dancers.
Scheduled as the season’s final premiere is a mixed bill, titled Slavic Temper, which will be first performed on 14 June at the New Stage. Ondřej Vinklát, a Czech National Ballet principal dancer, will be one of the artists who will contribute a new choreography. Also invited to collaborate has been Poland’s Katarzyna Kozielska, one of whose works was included in the DANCE GALA 2015 in Prague, and Andrey Kaydanovsky, a globally acclaimed contemporary dance-theatre creator.
We will continue to perform the popular productions Vertigo, decadance, The Snow Queen, La Bayadère, The Little Mermaid, Valmont, Romeo and Juliet, Solo for the Two of Us, and also revive Youri Vámos’s The Nutcracker – A Christmas Carol.
We sincerely hope and believe that the next Czech National Ballet season will meet with an enthusiastic response and satisfy the audience’s expectations!
