This exceptional ballet evening brings the essence of three important contemporary choreographers: Poklitaru, Bigonzetti and Ekman. Sharply contrasting styles create magical combination of lyricism, nostalgia, humor and crazy absurdity. Beware of dizziness – VERTIGO!

The name of the evening is derived from the work of Mauro Bigonzetti, a renowned choreographer whose creations adorn all important stages the world over. In his duet VERTIGO dancers show their virtuoso technique and brilliant interpretation. Mauro Bigonzetti worked as artistic director of Compagnia Aterballetto and Teatro alla Scala Ballet. His famous VERTIGO accompanied by the music of D. Shostakovich was created in 2006.

The second choreography of the evening – RAIN by Radu Poklitaru – offers interesting connotations as well. Poklitaru is Moldovan, he works for the Kiev Modern Ballet and invents contemporary pieces that are not readily accepted by the post-Soviet society. Although he does not produce big epic ballets, his works tell stories, employ ideas and depict various aspects of our modern chaotic world – the confusing Babylon.

The third part of VERTIGO is CACTI by Alexander Ekman. This energetic dance show is lively, surprising, witty and visually attractive. Ekman is devoted to film, too, and likes to create live performances and installations on improvised stages. He is a truly multigenre artist and currently is considered one of the best European choreographers mainly connected with Cullberg Ballet and Nederlands Dans Theater II. His work CACTI was created for NDT in 2010 and is highly praised by critics.
