An ideal blend of Viennese charm, humour and unmatched joie de vivre is the virtue of Johann Strauss II’s operetta Die Fledermaus, an extremely popular piece frequently performed at theatres all over the world. The work was first presented at an opera house in Hamburg owing to Gustav Mahler in 1894, and soon staged at the Hofoper in Vienna to mark the 50th anniversary of the launch of Strauss’s artistic career.
