Taking stock of one’s life. And as usual, on balance it’s grim. Life in dust. Infinite conversations with parents, sisters, oneself. What is the meaning of life? What have I lost en route, what have I forfeited, what have others taken away from me? Why is it so? What have I done wrong? Nothing, and everything. What is left to me? Solitude. And love. The memory of love. Painful, great, the only one. Lost in the dust of the stars. A new play by the holder of the Alfréd Radok Award Lenka Lagronová, whose drama The Cry was presented at the Kolowrat Theatre in the 2009/10 season.

Three daughters live with their mother in an abandoned house. Táňa and Dáša recall their common former love, a man to whom they were bound by an intense friendship that never transformed into an amorous relationship and with whose death they are not able to cope. The youngest sister, the slightly retarded Kája, keeps by means of a torch and transistor radio “sending” signals to outer space, in line with the “legacy” of their father, who told the sisters about conquering the cosmos. The only “reasonable” member of the family is the mother, yet her harsh pragmatism and dispassionateness only seem to conceal the same loneliness and hope felt by her daughters. The concluding “cosmic theatre“, an apparition of many celestial phenomena at one time, may evoke the feeling of a happy ending, an answer to the three sisters’ call, yet everything remains open. The work received second prize in the DRAMA 2010 competition for the best Czech and Slovak plays.

Drama in czech language.
