Violetta Valéry is one of the most famous opera heroines of all times. It is the story of the exceptional fate of a woman and her beloved, whom the celebrated courtesan proved to love more than herself – a captivating libretto based on the plot of the novella La Dame aux Camélias by Alexandre Dumas, fils, which he also adapted for the stage. When Verdi saw the play in Paris, he realized that it mirrored his own emotions for his fated woman, the singer Giuseppina Strepponi. This inspiration gave rise to a musical drama whose genuineness sets it beyond time and place, thus prompting the search for new stage solutions.
Premiere: October 20, 2017
