Sigrid Merx will talk about the political aspects of the theatre performed in the Netherlands. Looking at both national and international work, and performances for stage and public space, she will look at the political in the theatre beyond narrative, public space as political space, and performance space as social space.
Dr. Sigrid Merx is an Assistant Professor of Theatre Studies at Utrecht University, where she teaches within the BA programme Media and Culture Studies and in the MA programme Contemporary Theatre, Dance and Dramaturgy. Her current research focuses on the dramaturgy of contemporary socially engaged theatre and performance practices, in particular performative interventions in public space. Sigrid is part of the UU research group [urban interfaces] and one of the core members of Platform-Scenography.
