Direction, set and light design: Daniel Špinar
Dramaturgy: Jitka Slavíková

We can already reveal that the musically and visually unique gala concert marking the 60th birthday of Štefan Margita will primarily feature music by Leoš Janáček, which has been an integral and significant part of the singer’s professional career. The roles he has portrayed in Jenufa, Katya Kabanova, From the House of the Dead and other Janáček operas have above all gained Štefan Margita international renown, at the same time serving to make Janáček’s genius known at home and, primarily, abroad.
Besides Janáček’s music, the gala concert audience will also hear a number of grand international opera arias and duets, performed by the birthday evening’s guests, superlative singers all, Margita’s colleagues and friends. They will include the Dutch lyrical-dramatic soprano Eva-Maria Westbroek, the stellar Czech singers Eva Urbanová and Simona Houda-Šaturová, who need no introduction to our music-lovers, as well as two young National Theatre Opera soloists who appear alongside Štefan Margita in our latest production of Janáček’s From the House of the Dead: Messrs Josef Moravec and Jiří Brückler.
