Martin Gyimesi

Guest of the Opera


Tenor Martin Gyimesi studied singing at the Conservatoire (2005–2011) and the Academy of Music in Bratislava (2011–2012). As a member of the Slovak National Theatre Opera Chorus in Bratislava, he quickly received the opportunity to also sing solo roles. Since 2013, he has been a soloist of this ensemble and has created numerous roles including Nemorino (L‘elisir d‘amore), Bruno (I puritani), Almaviva (Il barbiere di Siviglia), Tamino (Die Zauberflöte), Don Ottavio (Don Giovanni), Ferrando (Così fan tutte), Belmonte (Die Entführung aus dem Serail), Don Riccardo (Ernani), Malcolm (Macbeth), Ismael (Nabucco), Tybalt (Roméo et Juliette), Edmondo (Manon Lescaut), to name a few. He performed Ernest (Don Pasquale) at the State Opera in Banská Bystrica and the role of Junoš (Smetana: The Brandenburgers in Bohemia) at the National Moravian-Silesian Theatre in Ostrava. In 2014, he created Delil (Verdi:Giovanna d’Arco) at the Viva Verdi open-air festival, and in 2015 and 2016 he sang Kai in the Snow Queen by Russian composer Sergei Banevich (*1941) in Eisenstadt, Austria. His concert repertoire include works by G. F. Handel, J. Haydn, W. A. Mozart, F. Schubert, A. Dvořák, C. Saint-Saëns, C. Franck, J. J. Ryba, J. Móry, A. Zimmermann a D. Kardoš. He made his debut at the Prague National Theatre as Tybalt in Gounod‘s Roméo et Juliette in 2016.
