Fabián LaraGuest of the Opera
Mexican tenor Fabián Lara made his National Theatre Opera debut on Oct. 13, 2019 as Cavaradossi in Tosca (State Opera production). He graduated from the School of Fine Arts in Tultepec, Mexico and Escuela Superior de Musica under the tutelage of countertenor Hector Sosa and participated in masterclasses of Plácido Domingo, Gregory Kunde, Ramón Vargas and Javier Camarena. He has won several competitions in Mexico and abroad such as the Lyric Singing Contest in Morelos, Mexico, first price in XVI Maritza Aleman Singing Contest in Mexico, second prize in Opera San Miguel in Mexico, first prize in Sinaloa’s International Contest 2013, first prize in National Singing Contest Carlos Morelli 2013, the International Singing prize in Les Jeunes Ambassadeurs Lyriques in Montreal, Canada, and first price in the International Contest Hariclea Darcleé in Romania. Lara’s recent engagements includes Edgardo (Lucia di Lammermoor) in Theater Basel, Alfredo (La traviata) at Busseto (Festival Verdi, Teatro Regio di Parma), Duca di Mantova (Rigoletto) at Teatro Cervantes de Málaga and Amigos de la Ópera de Vigo (Spain), Cavaradossi (Tosca) at Opera de Oviedo, A messenger (Aida) and Ruiz (Il trovatore) at Teatro Real de Madrid, A messenger (Aida), Manfredo (I vespri siciliani) and Liverotto (Lucrezia Borgia) at Palau de les Arts (Valencia). He also sang the role of Albino Garcia in the world premiere of the Mexican opera Nuestro Tresguerras. His repertoire includes also Roberto in Le Villi, Nemorino in L’elisir d’amore, and the solo tenor part in Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony.
