The book represents works of art at the National Theatre- especially Aleš’s lunette paintings from the Motherland cycle and paintings and murals by František Ženíšek. Chapters in the book are dedicated to the birth of the decorations and the struggles between Aleš and Ženíšek at that time and to the birth of the modern myth - a phenomenon Aleš, restoration of wall paintings. The book is accompanied by photographs from the past and present, including photographs of lunettes form the Motherland cycle by Mikoláš Aleš and the triptych art on the ceiling by František Ženíšek before and after the completion of the restoration. The restoration was bankrolled by Ms. prof. Dr. Dadja Altenburg-Kohl. The book includes a DVD with interviews with personalities involved in the restoration of the foyer.
The book was issued at her own expense by a patron philanthropist Mrs. prof. Dr. Dadja Altenburg-Kohl.
