The poet and dreamer Andrea Chénier and the aristocrat Maddalena are passionately attracted to each other just to be separated by the terror and turmoil of the French revolution. The initially innocent flirtation turns into a desperate and wild passion. The tragic and thrilling Giordano’s opera tells a story of the French poet André Chénier, one of the last victims of Robespierre’s Reign of Terror in 1793 and 1794.
