Jan Frič

Director

Biography

He comes from Košíře, Prague. From the 2017/2018 season to the 2021/2022 season he was associated director of the National Theatre Drama, otherwise he's a dormant member of the theatre group Society of Doctor Krása.

He studied Drama Theatre Directing at DAMU in Prague under the guidance of Daria Ullrichová and Jan Nebeský. After school, he guest-starred in a number of theatres, but all the time he has remained closely connected with A Studio Rubín. Although he has staged a number of successful productions of classics (for example, Goethe's Faust and Gorky's Vassa Zheleznova at the National Theatre) and contemporary authors, he never stops questioning his place in the theatre and what theatre actually is. He often escapes to his hobbies, which are computers, graphics and electronic music.

His productions Vassa Zheleznova and The Bacchae won the Theatre Critics Award for Best Production of 2021 and 2023. The Bacchae also won the Theatre Critics Award for Best Music for Jakub Kudláč.
