Tomáš Trapl

Biography

Guest of the National Theatre Opera. Tomáš Trapl studied opera singing at the Prague Conservatory and the Music Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts. He launched his artistic career in 1986 with the jazz-vocal ensemble Dobrý večer Quintet, with the art-rock band Beatover and with the “string band” Pražský pouťový orchestr. For ten years he performed at the Semafor theatre in Jiří Suchý’s musicals; for example, Výhybka (The Switch) Kytice (Bouquet), Nizhny Novgorod, etc. As a member of the international ensemble Artists for Prague he enacted in English lead roles in the musicals The Fantasticks (Matt), Pippin (Pippin), A Christmas Carol, etc. He has dubbed a host of characters in most Walt Disney animated cartoons: The Lion King I, II, III; Pocahontas; Alice in Wonderland; The Hunchback of Notre Dame I, II; A Goofy Movie; The Swan Princess; The Prince of Egypt; Winnie-the-Pooh; Cinderella; Timon & Pumbaa; Monsters, Inc.; etc. Since 1992 he has sung in the musicals Les Misérables (Enjolras), The Foam of the Days (Chick), Clown (Junior), Jesus Christ Superstar (Judas), Petrol and Makeup (Jim), Dracula (the Priest or the Buffoon-Servant-Professor), Hamlet (the Gravedigger), The Pied Piper (Fate), Cleopatra (Ptolemaios or Octavian), Galileo (Father Inchofer), Miss Saigon (John), The Three Musketeers (Cardinal Richelieu), The Secret (Martin), Golem (Mordekhai), Angelika (Desgrez). At the present time, he works as a pedagogue at the Dramatic Art Department of the Prague Conservatory, where he has produced the graduates’ performance of A Walk Worthwhile (Suchý/Šlitr) and the musicals The Office, Sale and Kytice (A Bouquet), which he co-created as an author and director.
