Biography

The Welsh tenor Timothy Richards studied at the Royal Welsh College of Music and at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester. 1998 he made his professional operatic debut as Alfredo in La traviata for Welsh National Opera. Invitations to perform in Basel, Innsbruck and Oslo followed. His engagement to sing the Italian Tenor in Der Rosenkavalier at the Semperoper Dresden was the beginning of his career in Germany. In the year of 2000, he also made his role debut as Rodolfo in La bohème at the Semperoper Dresden. Since then Timothy Richards appears in the leading tenor roles at Semperoper Dresden, National Opera Oslo, Royal Danish Opera Copenhagen, Grand Opera Poznan, Glyndebourne Oper, Staatsoper Leipzig, Staatsoper Stuttgart, and the Spoleto Festival in Italy and at many other opera houses and festivals in Europe. The centre of his repertoire is the famous Italian and French Opera. His recent engagements include Hoffmann in Les contes d`Hoffmann at the Komische Oper in Berlin, the Theater Bielefeld and Perm Opera, Prince in Rusalka at the Komische Oper in Berlin and Staatstheater Wiesbaden, Don José in Carmen at the Komische Oper in Berlin, Rodolfo in La bohème at the Staatsoper unter den Linden in Berlin and the title role in Werther in Salzburg. Moreover he gave his debut as Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly at the English National Opera in London. Engagements in this season include Riccardo in Un ballo in maschera in Magdeburg, Pinkerton in Wuppertal and Werther in Chemnitz. A solo album with arias of Verdi and Puccini was published by the label MDG Musikproduktion Dabringhaus und Grimm. Next to his opera engagements Timothy Richards is a well employed concert tenor. He gave concerts with orchestras like the BBC National Orchestra, Deutsche Staatsphilharmonie Rheinland-Pfalz and the MDR Symphonieorchester in the Royal Albert Hall, Bridgwater Hall, St. Davis Hall and Philharmonie Essen.
