Matyáš Havrda
Biography
He comes from Malá Strana, Prague. In 2000 he received a PhD in the history of philosophy from the Faculty of Arts of Charles University. Afterwards he was employed in Olomouc (Cyril and Methodius Theological Faculty of UP), Berlin (Institute of Classical Studies of HU) and Prague (Institute of Philosophy of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic), where he still works today. He has also spent time as a researcher in California and Crete.
He is interested in ancient Greek texts on the borderline between religion, philosophy and science, especially the works of Clement of Alexandria and Galen. He has published several books in domestic and foreign publishing houses and forty scholarly studies. His translations of Galen's Affections and Errors of the Soul: Their Diagnosis and Treatment (Oikumené, 2021) have been published in Czech, and he has also translated Sophocles' Oedipus Rex (Větrné mlýny, 1999) and Aeschylus' Oresteia (ND, 2002) with Petr Borkovec.
