Guest of the Opera

German-Brazilian tenor Martin Muehle was born in Porto Alegre in Brazil and studied at the Musikhochschule in Lübeck, Germany. Highlights of recent seasons include Don José (Carmen) at Theater St. Gallen, Radames (Aida) at the St. Margarethen Opera Festival, Siegmund (Die Walküre) at Theater Detmold, Arrigo (I vespri siciliani) at Theater Freiburg, Don José in Brasilia and Buenos Aires, Turiddu (Cavalleria rusticana) in Brasilia, Siegmund in La Plata and at Theatro Municipal in São Paulo, where he also sang Alfonso in Korngold’s Violanta and Guido in Zemlinsky’s Eine florentinische Tragödie, Lohengrin at Theater St. Gallen and at the Nationaltheater Mannheim, Calaf at Oper Köln and Teatro Filarmonico in Verona, Andrea Chénier at the Deutsche Oper Berlin, Don José at the Bregenz Festival and Oper Graz, Des Grieux (Manon Lescaut) in São Paolo, Faust in Boito’s Mefistofele at Theater Freiburg, Fritz in Schreker’s Der ferne Klang at the Nationaltheater Mannheim, Pollione (Norma) at Theater St. Gallen, among many others.
In the 2017/18 season Martin Muehle made his role and house debut at Teatro Massimo in Palermo as Maurizio (Adriana Lecouvreur) opposite Angela Gheorghiu and conducted by Daniel Oren, and his role debut as Manrico (Il trovatore) at Konzert Theater Bern. He returned to the Nationaltheater Mannheim as Calaf (Turandot) and in April 2018 he made his house debut at Teatro Petruzzelli in Bari in the title role of Andrea Chénier. He finishes this season with two productions of his signature role, Don José in Carmen, at Konzert Theater Bern and the Bregenz Festival in summer 2018. Future seasons include his debuts with Seattle Opera and Théâtre du Capitole Toulouse.
