Biography

Marek Bureš studied intermedia art at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague in the class of Jiří David. The projects he has participated in include the short film Vápenná Sinfonietta (Calcic Sinfonietta), to Petr Wajsar’s music for live orchestra projection, premiered at the Prague Spring festival in 2015 with the participation of the Berg Orchestra; the scenic video projection Water Music (2015) for Petr Wajsar’s remix of G. F. Handel’s work, performed by the Plzeň Philharmonic; the documentary Lyžař (The Skier, 2016) about the best grass skier of all time; and the short movie Hero by Mistake (2012). As a co-director, he has participated in the Netflix docuseries Terrorism Close Calls (2018). The documentary The Skier has received the Guirlande d’Honneur at the FICTS fest in Milan (2016), the Best Film prize at the Outdoor Films festival (2016), the Best Documentary - Sport Film in Liberec (2016), while the Hero by Mistake has won the Best Directing Award and Viewers’ Choice within the 48-hour Film Project in Prague (2011).
