Igor Jan

Biography

Tenor Igor Jan, graduate of the St. Petersburg’s Academy of Music, was soloist of the Mariinsky Theatre until 2002 and on this stage he created many Russian and other opera roles. He won many international singing competitions including the vocal competitions of Maria Callas and Giacomo Puccini in Italy. Successful participations in these competitions opened him door to the stages and concert halls in many European and Asian countries. In September 1991, he became soloist of the Slovak National Theatre in Bratislava. From 1992, he had been permanent guest of the Prague State Opera where he sang Hoffmann in Offenbach’s Le contes d’Hoffmann,  Verdi’s Gustavo III in Un ballo in maschera, the Duke in Rigoletto, Alfredo in La traviata, Radames in Aida and  Ismael in Nabucco, Puccini’s Cavaradossi inTosca, Kalaf in Turandot and Des Grieux in Manon Lescaut,  Don José in Bizet’s Carmen, Enzo in Ponchielli’s La Gioconda, Faust in Gounod’s Faust, Hermann in Tchaikovsky’s The Queen of Spades or Marcello in Leoncavallo’s La bohème. Since January 2012 he has been permanent guest of the Czech National Opera. He also performed in Bratislava and Brno, in Vienna alongside Edita Gruberová in Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor, or in Japan with Eva Marton and Maria Guleghina inTosca and with Inés Salazar in Aida. He collaborated with several significant conductors such as Andrew Litton, Valery Gergiev, Gianandrea Noseda and Stefan Lano.
