Biography

American tenor Erin Caves made his National Theatre Opera debut on 23 September 2018  in the role of Florestan (Fidelio, State opera production). He was raised in Stockton, California, and completed his musical studies at the Yale University School of Music and The Juilliard School. His repertoire comprises roles such as Florestan (Fidelio), Don José (Carmen), Tiresias (Die Bassariden), Hans Schwalb (Mathis der Maler), Idomeneo, Hoffmann (Les contes d‘Hoffmann), Sergej (Lady Macbeth of Mzensk), Eisenstein (Die Fledermaus), Narraboth (Salome), Bacchus (Ariadne auf Naxos), Kaiser (Die Frau ohne Schatten), Sellem (The Rake‘s Progress), Cavaradossi (Tosca) as well as Wagner roles such as Tristan, Erik, Stolzing, Siegmund, Siegfried, Loge and Parsifal. Erin Caves has guest appeared at the Vlaamse Opera Antwerp, the State Operas in Stuttgart, Nuremberg, Berlin, Hannover, at the Aalto Theatre Essen, the Deutsche Oper am Rhein, Komische Oper Berlin, Theater St. Gallen, Zurich Opera, Volksoper Wien, Teatro Lirico di Cagliari, Teatro Real Madrid as well as at the Teatro alla Scala. On the concert platform highlights include Mahler´s Das Lied von der Erde, Beethoven 9th Symphony, 8 Romanze per Tenore e Orchestra (Verdi/Berio), Schmidt’s Das Buch mit sieben Siegeln as well as Schnittke’s Faust Cantata, Op. 167 “Seid nüchtern und wachet”.
