Elena Gazdíková

Biography

Elena Gazdíková was born in Bratislava, Slovakia. Having graduated from the Bratislava Conservatory as a solo singer she continued her studies at the Janáček Academy of Music and Performing Arts in Brno, Moravia, and then graduated from the Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts in Bratislava. Since 1993 Gazdíková has appeared as a solo opera singer in the Moravian Theatre in Olomouc, where she has created dozens of opera and operetta roles. For example Anna (Der Freischutz), Adina (L'elixir d'amore), Ilia (Idomeneo), Karolina (Two Widows), Amelia (Simone Boccanegra), Olympia (Tales of Hoffmann), Mimi (La Bohéme), Nedda (Pagliacci), Vixen (The Cunning Little Vixen), Adéla (Die Fledermaus), Líza (The Land of Smiles), Sylva (The Gipsy Princess), Rosina (Il barbiere di Siviglia), Gilda (Rigoletto), Pamina, Queen of the Night (The Magic Flut). For her performance as the Queen of the Night Gazdíková won the award for the best stage performance in Olomouc in the 1999/2000 season. She also sang this role in Germany and Switzerland. She has appeared as a guest artist in the Silesian Theatre in Opava (Zuzana, Le nozze di Figaro) as well as in the National Theatre in Brno (Zorika, Gipsy Love). Elena Gazdíková also devotes considerable time to concert appearances. Here she has collaborated with the Moravian Philharmonic in Olomouc, with the Philharmonic in Zlín as well as the State Philharmonic Brno. Prague audiences have had the pleasure of seeing and hearing this singer when she appeared as a guest with the Olomouc company at the Festival of Czech Opera Houses in 1997 (Ilia, Idomeneo), 1999 (Queen of the Night, The Magic Flut) and 2001 (Olympia, Tales of Hoffmann).
