Biography

Ukranian tenor Dmytro Popov began his career as a soloist with the Kiev National Theatre where he made his debut as Lensky in Eugene Onegin. He came to international attention in 2013 when he performed the role of Rodolfo in La bohème at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden, covering for Rolando Villazón. From here, his global career took off and Popov has performed multiple roles across the world at significant opera houses with highlights including; Nicias (Thaïs) at the Teatro Regio di Torino, Pinkerton (Madama Butterfly), Cavaradossi (Tosca) and Rodolfo (Luisa Miller), all with the Deutsche Oper Berlin, Vaudémont (Iolanta) with the Teatro Real de Madrid, Macduff (Macbeth) with the Opéra National de Lyon, Andrei (Mazeppa) with the Opéra de Monte-Carlo, Lensky at the Opéra National de Paris, Don José (Carmen) at the Hamburg State Opera and Norweigian National Opera, Cavaradossi (Tosca) at the Staatstheater Stuttgart and Dresden Opera, Rodolfo (La bohème) and Alfredo (La traviata) at the Vienna State Opera, Rodolfo and Prince (Rusalka) at the Bavarian State Opera in Munich.
Dmytro Popov is also an internationally successful concert singer, having cooperated with the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome conducted by Sir Antonio Pappano or the Berlin Philharmonic conducted by Sir Simon Rattle, to name but a few. He became the youngest ever opera artist to be granted the title of ‘Honoured Artist of Ukraine’ (2003) and in 2007, he became a winner of the Plácido Domingo Operalia Competition. His engagements in the 2016/2017 season include Grigoriy (Boris Godunov) at the Bavarian State Opera, Prince (Rusalka) at the Vienna State Opera or his debut at the Metropolitan Opera (Rodolfo in La bohème).
