David Janošek

Biography

The actor, designer and puppet master David Janošek initially studied at the Secondary School of Arts and Design in Brno, which he completed in 2009. Subsequently, he attended the College of Restoration, from which he graduated in 2012, and concurrently studied at the Janáček Academy of Performing Arts and Music in Brno (under the guidance of Oxana Smilková), graduating in 2015. After rounding off his education, he joined the drama company of the National Moravian-Silesian Theatre in Ostrava. Since 2019, he has been a freelance actor and designer.
Since 2016, Janošek has created sets and costumes for numerous theatres in the Czech Republic, particularly the National Theatre in Brno – the productions Ferda the Ant (2020), The Diary of One Who Disappeared (2020), Swan Lake (2019), Puss in Boots (2018) and Amadeus Mozart (2018); the National Moravian-Silesian Theatre in Ostrava – Erratic Rocks (2020), Robert le diable (2019), Terror (2018), The Secret (2017), Zob, zob, Zoban (Bird, Give Us Back Our Water Sprite, 2017); the Petr Bezruč Theatre in Ostrava – A Clockwork Orange (2020), Hedda Gabler/The Theory of Maturity (2019) and The Master and Margarita (2019); the Theatre of Moravian Slovakia in Uherské Hradiště – Tom at the Farm (2019); the Moravian Theatre in Olomouc – The Bells of Corneville (2020), The House of Bernarda Alba (2020), Mamzelle Nitouche (2019), Shear Madness (2018) and Vzpoura nevěst (The Rebellion of Brides, 2017); the Aréna Chamber Stage – The Hen (2017; the East Bohemia Theatre in Pardubice – Baskerville: A Sherlock Holmes Mystery (2020); the Silesian Theatre in Opava –  Der Freischütz (2019), Mamzelle Nitouche (2019), The Firebird (2018) and Arizona Lady (2017); the South Bohemia Theatre in České Budějovice – Eugene Onegin (2021) and Jenůfa (2018); the Zlín Municipal Theatre – Saturnin (2019) and Mikvah (2018); the Puppet Theatre in Ostrava – Moomin and the Magic Hat (2018); the Brno Philharmonic – Victory Over the Sun (2017); the Polárka Theatre in Brno - Nasreddin/Eulenspiegel (2017), Siddhartha (2018) and Homo Zabijens (The End of the Mammoth Hunters, 2018); etc. Moreover, he has worked with Slovakia’s State Opera in Banská Bystrica on the production Cavalleria rusticana/Pagliacci (2019) and the Slovak National Theatre in Bratislava on the TV series commemorating its centenary (2020).
David Janošek has repeatedly collaborated with the stage directors J. A. Pitínský, Magdalena Švecová, Janka Ryšánek Schmiedtová, Lubor Cukr, Hana Mikolášková, Zuzana Fischerová, Tereza Říhová, and others. As an actor, he has recently performed within the Summer Shakespeare Festivals in Prague and Ostrava, and appeared in productions of the National Theatre in Prague and the National Moravian-Silesian Theatre in Ostrava.
