Soloist of The Czech National Ballet

Biography

Born in Palermo, Danilo lo Monaco studied at the Accademia Teatro alla Scala in Milan, where after graduating he was briefly engaged. Since 2016, he has been a member of the Czech National Ballet, where in 2021 he was named a demi-soloist and 2022 a soloist. A talented, elegant artist, he is one of the company’s finest young danseurs, also splendidly performing in duets with more seasoned ballerinas.

The most significant part he has been assigned to date is the title role in John Cranko’s Onegin. The Prague audiences have seen him as the Prince and Rothbart in Swan Lake (J. Cranko), Carabosse and the Prince of the North in The Sleeping Bauty (M. Haydée), Count Paris and Carnival King in Romeo and Juliet (J. Cranko), the Oriental Dancer in The Nutcracker – A Christmas Carol (Y. Vàmos) and the Wolf in The Snow Queen (M. Corder).

Danilo’s repertoire also includes modern and neoclassical works, such as Bella Figura, Petite Mort, Six dances (J. Kylián), Leonce & Lena (Ch. Spuck), Kafka: The Trial (M. Bigonzetti), Puppet (D. Lee), Prelude und Liebestod (C. Soto), The Second Detail (W. Forsythe), EDEN | EDEN (W. McGregor), Bill (S. Eyal), The Rite of Spring (G. Tetley), Rain (R. Poliktaru).

Alongside first soloist Nikola Márová, he danced in Mask Duet (D. Lee) within the Velvet Ballet Gala in November 2019 at The Estates Theatre.
