Daniel Camargo

Principal guest of The Czech National Ballet

The Brazilian dancer Daniel Camargo took his first ballet lessons in his homeland Brazil. He was discovered at the Youth America Grand Prix (2005), after which he went on to train at the John Cranko School in Stuttgart. In 2009, Camargo joined Stuttgarter Ballett, where he was promoted to principal dancer in 2013. With Stuttgarter Ballett, he danced leading roles in ballets by John Cranko, Jerome Robbins, George Balanchine, Maurice Béjart, Kenneth MacMillan, Glen Tetley and Hans van Manen. New works were created on him by such renowned choreographers as Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, Wayne McGregor, Jorma Elo and Marco Goecke. In 2015, Daniel Camargo made his debut with Dutch National Ballet as a guest artist in The Nutcracker and the Mouse King. Since the 2016/2017 season, he has been a principal dancer of the Dutch National Ballet.

Within his career he was awarded these prizes:
- In October 2009 he was awarded the European Most Promising Award by the European Foundation for Culture.
- In the season 2010/11 he won the German Dance Price Future.
- In 2011 he participated at the competition for the Erik Bruhn Prize in Toronto, Canada and won the Audience Choice.
- In 2017 he was nominated for among the best dancers of the year in international stages, receiving the Positano price in Italy.
- 2018 -  winner Prix Benois de la Danse

Daniel has performed with several Ballet Companies as The Stuttgart Ballet, The Australian Ballet, The Het National Ballet,The Tokyo Ballet and The Mariinsky Theater.

Principal dancer of Dutch National Ballet Daniel Camargo became permanent guest of The Czech National Ballet since March 2019. The Czech National Ballet thanks to The National Theatre Benefactors' Club for generous support.
