Cellia Costea

Biography

Roumanian soprano Cellia Costea studied at the Music School of Patra Neamt and at the University of Bucarest with Maria Slatinaru Nistro, Iulian Baiasu, Silvia Voodina, Eleonora Enachescu and Eugenia Modoveanu. At the international voice competitions she won third prizes at the „Voci Verdiane“ in Busseto 1998 and at the Bilbao Competition, second prizes at the Hans Gabor Belvedere Competition in Vienna 1999 and at the „Jaume Aragall“ in Girona 2002 as well as first prizes at the „Julian Gayarre“ Competition in Pamplona 2000, at the Montserrat Caballé Competition in Andorra 2001, in Bad Mergenthim and at the Second International Singers Competition in Peking 2002. In january 2003 she won first prize at the Francisco Viñas Competition in Barcelona. Her stage experience include appearances as Micaëla (Bizet: Carmen) and Desdemona (Verdi: Otello) in Bucarest, Contessa (Mozart: Le nozze di Figaro) at Staatsoper Stuttgart, in Klagenfurt and at Deutsche Oper Berlin, Leonora (Verdi: Il trovatore) in Pamplona and Liù (Puccini: Turandot) in Bergen as well as First Dame (Mozart: Die Zauberflöte) in Toulouse, Arminda (Mozart: La finta giardiniera) in Stuttgart and Verdi’s Requiem in a staged production at National Theatre in Prague conducted by Jiří Kout. Cellia Costea sang concerts in Pamplona, Ordino, Madrid, Sakata, Yamagata, Cannes, Paris, New York, Peking and at the prestigious Arte tv station in Saarbrücken.Update: 2004
