Andrea Frídová

Biography

Guest of the National Theatre Opera. Andrea Brožáková was born in 1974. She studied voice at the Conservatory in Plzeň and the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague. Since 1993 she has been a member of the Opera of the Theatre in Plzeň, for which she has performed a number of roles, including: Dvořák’s Second Wood Nymph (Rusalka) and Chambermaid (The Devil and Kate), Annina (Verdi: La traviata), Barbarina (Mozart: Le nozze di Figaro) and Echo (R. Strauss: Ariadne auf Naxos). She portrayed Belinda in the acclaimed staging of Purcell’s opera Dido and Aeneas, hailed by the critics as the production of 1998. Her most noteworthy performances abroad include participation in the Opera Festival in Rio de Janeiro, where she appeared in the scenic madrigal Lamenti staged by the in spe association. In 2002 she won the Ema Destinnová International Voice Competition in České Budějovice, where she has collaborated with the South Bohemia Chamber Philharmonic Orchestra. Andrea has been an active interpreter of Baroque music. She is a member of Plzeň-based Musica ad Gaudium and the ensemble Collegium 1704. She has also collaborated with Musica Florea, Musica Bohemica and Ensemble Accento. Update: January 2009
